Tony emerged from the vehicle pretending that the clumsy driving didn’t upset his stomach in the slightest. It was actually hard to do so after having a double cheeseburger at one of New York’s greasiest joints. It was his own personal reward and pre celebration of their rare calls. People didn’t seem to think that a team of scientists was capable of taking down ghosts. The bearded man disagreed loudly; they would rather rely on wanna be sorcerers and exorcists than give them a call. Which only frustrated them even further; the demons they had to pick up when they were called to clean after a nasty exorcism weren’t fun in the slightest.”Let you do this all time? Are you kidding? Your driving is more dangerous than the actual job itself..”he muttered as he held back a chuckle. Or at least tried to, because what came out of his mouth was indeed a chuckle.

Get used to it kid. Or rather, don’t, we’ll see how much fun you’ll have after cleaning slime off you for days. And be careful with the hair, some tricky ones like to set them on fire”, he pointed out as he settled his own pack on his bag, zipping up his jumpsuit and adjusting his gloves, goggles resting on his forehead. “Ladies first”, he gestured at the library’s doors.

Well if you don’t like my driving here…” There was a gesture grand and sweeping to the city rising up around them and enclosing them in it’s confines like an old, old friend no longer eligible for road safety. “…home of the unlicensed then we could have taken the bus. I learned to drive in a suburb. In Chicago. I am the Vincent Van Gogh of driving in New York. Which is to say under appreciated until I crash the car.” There’s a wary smile as her thigh brushes the ding she left in the side on their venture over after having just compared herself to historical excellence and she charged past at his welcome.

Slime?” The exaggeration on the word was only a fifth of the disgust she’d feel when actually confronted with it and still she blazed the trail ahead, throwing looks over her shoulder as she felt apprehensive about the idea of a rookie going in first but dared not voice her concerns for fear of dented pride. “Is that why these jumpsuits are beige and sad?” It was a joke to ease her nerves as she faced forward and threw open the doors to the library, peaceful if not emptied for their untimely arrival. False confidence afflicted her and her shoulders untensed.

A ghost hanging out in a library can’t be tha-”

And if her ease was not enough forewarning from the ground a grey lady rose, masked in the smoke that rose around her, “S̱H̡H̻”. The warning was curt and issued strictly before the figure raced off and then down from whence, disappearing under floorboards that creaked under Kitty’s weight shifting defensively.
